We are pleased to announce the Technical Session – SHM-5 on “Seismic Structural Health Monitoring of Historical Structures of the 20th Century”. This event is organized by Rosario Ceravolo (Politecnico di Torino), Francesco Romeo (Sapienza Università di Roma), and Erica Lenticchia (Politecnico di Torino) and will be held as part of the upcoming WCEE2024 in Milan.
Event Description: The analysis and preservation of architectural heritage, particularly regarding their seismic performance, represent a significant topic addressed by the international scientific community. Historical constructions are complex structures, and their behavior during earthquakes remains an open issue.
The technical session aims to focus on seismic structural health monitoring (SHM) applied to historical structures and infrastructure. It will explore innovative solutions to identify seismic and structural vulnerability, including the use of satellite-based data. The session encourages the sharing of opinions and presentations of recent studies concerning the advancement of SHM in historical structures and infrastructure. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Architectural heritage of the 20th century
- Shell and spatial structures
- Role of SHM in defining the seismic vulnerability of historical structures and infrastructures
- Dynamic identification
- Satellite-based SHM
- Model calibration
- Vibration-based strategies for structural health assessment and damage detection
- Experimental results
- Case studies presentation
We invite active participation in this technical session to share experiences and present studies related to the advancement of seismic structural health monitoring of historical structures and infrastructure.
